![]() In 1994, Wilmington, N.C. became the site of a ship scrapping operation. There were twenty decommissioned U.S.NAVY Warships and one Maritime ship. Wilmington Resources, Inc.,and Sigma Recycling, LLC, operated the facility.

Under normal circumstances, dismantled parts of a ship are available to the
public for sale. Price is oftentimes determined by weight, especially for
brass and bronze. Depending on the condition of the wood from a minesweeper,
it is not unusual for the material to be used for public use such as school projects, etc.![]() |
